Milos

The
island of Milos is mainly frequented by Greek holiday-makers.
However, during the month of August it is now one of the favourite
destinations for Italians.
The two main tourist attractions of the island are Adamas, the
main port, and Apollonia, a charming summer resort situated in
the north-east of the island, some 12 kms from Adamas.
We suggest you to stay in one of these two
resorts.
We recommend Adamas as a more practical destination for a
shorter stay in order to visit the island.
For a longer stay, we suggest Apollonia for those wanting to
enjoy the beauty of the beaches and the pleasant atmosphere of this
fishing port or Triovassalos for those wishing to be inland.

Adamas

Adamas is the island's centre of
entertainment where most of the economic activity is concentrated.
It is a rapidly expanding little town with beaches that have been
planted with tamarisk trees on either side. To the right, looking
towards the sea, is the beach of Lagada, some
500
metres from the centre, and to the left is the beach of Papakinou,
1000 metres away.
Hotels, boarding houses, various rented accommodation and businesses
are scattered about everywhere. Although Adamas is quite
noisy it is still a very welcoming place with its pedestrian streets,
its houses with their flowered courtyards, and its pretty churches,
in particular that of Agia Triada, dating back to the 17th
century and characterized by a type of architecture that is very
rare in Greece. Restaurants, cafes and discotheques liven up
the seafront.
Adamas is the departure point for caïque or sailing
adventures which tour the island. A real must.
Public services: medical centre, banks, bus services and caïques
serving the beaches.
Apollonia
Apollonia is a
picturesque fishing village built around a pretty bay and fringed by
a beautiful sandy beach planted with tamarisk trees.
To the right of the bay is the chapel of Aghia Paraskevi
where typical taverns and cafes can be found around the little port;
to the left of the bay, the chapel of Agios Nikolaos and the
newer neighbourhood of Pelekouda where most of the rented
accommodation is found. The place is ideal for families and diving
enthusiasts and there is a club here.
From
Apollonia, caïques and a ferry go to the little nearby island
of Kimolos daily. Trips can be organized to Glaronissia,
where enormous 20-metre high hexagonal shaped basalt blocks emerge
from the water.
Several pretty beaches surround Apollonia. Among the most
beautiful are Mytakas, Agios Constantinos, Agia Irini and
Pachainas.
A number of walking routes are available to visitors; among the most
interesting is the Papafranga cave, a former pirate's hideout,
a narrow fjord which threads through high rock faces and runs into
the sea through a gap in the rocks.
A bus service links Apollonia to Adamas. However, it
is strongly recommended to take a car, moped, scooter or bike in
order to fully take advantage of the scenery.

Triovassalos
This area was formed by the union of two villages -
Pera Triovassalos
and
Triovassalos
and is located on the hillsides above
Adamas,
with distant views of the villages of
Tripiti
and
Plaka.
The area is quite highly populated and there is a great deal of
commercial activity. It is characterised by a maze of small streets
where there are small rectangular houses, most with a garden, and
several lovely churches, one of which is
Agios Spyridon.
The beaches of Firopotamos,
Mandrakia
and
Plathiena
are several kilometres away. Practical as an island base within a
very local community.
