Kimolos

The
Kastro of Chorio dates from the 16th century. Rows of
houses create a slightly trapezoid rectangle. One enters through two
very large gates, one to the east and the other to the south. In the
four corners were towers, only one of which remains today.
On the inside of the neighbourhood a double row of houses form a
second rectangle which is open only towards the west. At the centre
is the church square.
The roads run parallel and most are covered. They are generally no
wider than two and a half metres. The windows of the houses were
changed into loopholes.

Located on the crest of the Xaplovouno hills, it dominates Chorio from the north. Take the path which leads there, crossing the area of prickly pear trees, at the top of the village to the right. Be careful, it's steep.
The district of the mills - only one of which still operates - draws attention to traditional stone dwellings that are unfortunately almost abandoned. It also offers a superb view of the island. The sea is very beautiful there and watching the sun set is magical.

Be
sure to go and see the fishing harbours of Rema, Stroggilo, Goupa
and Karras, easily accessible on foot from Psathi.
They can be visited one after another in the north-east of the
island and are very picturesque and colourful with their boat
garages cut out of rock. At Goupa, there are
interesting rock formations with houses built right
against them.
You can swim at lovely beaches flanked by pastel-toned cliffs.
You can continue walking until Prassa. It is there that
perlite and bentonite deposits are worked. A little further you can
relax on a superb white sandy beach with turquoise coloured waters.

If
you want to discover the underwater caves, strangely shaped and
phantasmagorical rocks, landscapes of jagged cliffs and little
creeks with water the colour of precious stones, then look for
Augustis. He always
hangs
around the port and will be delighted to organize a beautiful tour
for you as only he knows how to show you what you will never forget. Ask him
to take you to Ellenika to see the underwater remnants of an
ancient city and to the small island of Poliagos, famous for
its marvellous landscapes and beaches.

Kimolos is a small island where everything is accessible
on foot. Hikers will be able to practically cross the island from
one end to the other on the walking trails.

Fine sandy beaches, pebble beaches or creeks -- you
will be spoilt for choice, and depending on the wind conditions,
you'll choose the beach or creek that will suit you best. Amongst
the most beautiful of the beaches are Aliki, Bonantsa, Klima,
Limni and Prassa.
